CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services is ideal for those people seeking to gain employment in Community based environment as welfare support workers, community workers, disabilities services officer, family support worker, residential care officer, community service coordinator. This course combines both theory and practical sessions and is designed to provide students with professional skills and knowledge to carry out duties as welfare support workers, community workers, disabilities services officer, family support worker, residential care officer, community service coordinator. Students will learn how to assess service requirements for people with complex needs and disbailities in the community, plan and monitor service delivery, undertake relevant administrative tasks, plan and conduct group activities, implement and monitor Work Health & Safety policies and procedures, implement and monitor infection prevention and control policies and procedures, organise effective team work environment, liaise with family members and allied health professionals and will be able to work in different community service organisations. On completion of this course students will obtain a nationally recognised qualification which will open employment doors to different community service organisations and also provide a pathway to other health and community related qualifications such as Bachelor of Community Services/ Bachelor of Nursing. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must complete at least 100 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Students are to undergo national police check, working with children check and complete HLTAID011 Provide first aid, prior to commencement of professional experience placement at their own cost. The cost for police check varies from $50-$100, the cost of working with children check cost $80 and the cost for first aid training varies from $80-$150. Students are required to wear ACHM uniform during the placement which can be purchased from ACHM office ($50.00). Students are also required to pay photocopying and printing fee if they choose to do in the college (Printing and copying costs: black and white $0.20/page and colour $0.50/page).

Australian College of Health & Management require following as an entry requirement for persons who wishes to undertake this course:
student must have completed Australian year 12 (higher secondary) or equivalent education to get entry into this course and have general command of written and spoken English.
Have suitable language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning materials and perform tasks related to recording care routines, writing progress notes for older person, communicating with older person effectively, reading and interpreting workplace policies and procedures, reporting hazards, calculating fluid balance charts, monitoring and recording blood pressure and blood glucose levels.
No previous industry skills/knowledge and experience required.
Person must be 18 years of age or older.
Must obtain Criminal history check prior to work-placement.
Students will be required to complete HLTAID011 Provide first aid prior to work placement, which the students will be required to complete separately at their own cost. The cost varies from $80.00-$150.00

As detailed in Assessment Requirements for Units of Competency, the students must complete 120 hours of professional experience placement (work-placement). ACHM will organize the work placement for the students. The work-placement hours usually depend on the host facility’s schedule. Students are required to wear ACHM uniform and a name badge which can be purchased from ACHM office ($50.00). Note: Closed in non-slip black shoes are required to be worn during work placement.

Assessments are an integral part of all training courses. ACHM uses the principles of competency-based training for all courses. This means that a student’s performance is assessed on their ability to perform the tasks to the required standard. In order to ensure the principles of validity are upheld a variety of learning styles and a range of assessment strategies are used. Students are advised at the commencement of each term when assessments are scheduled, and a student may put forward for consideration of any special needs they may have.
Assessment for each unit of competency will be through a combination of the following types of assessments:
Students are required to attend 20 hours of face to face classes each week and also require to do 6 hours of self-learning each week during the term. Attendance records will systematically be maintained for students. Non-attendance due to illness evidenced by medical certificate, or other exceptional personal leave will also be recorded, monitored and reported weekly. Students must present a medical certificate issued by a Legally Qualified Medical Practitioner, a sickness certificate issued by a pharmacy is not sufficient.
You are required to maintain a satisfactory course progress in the course which you are enrolled in in each term and the semester. You must achieve at least 50 % of your work load in order to progress into the next term and semester. Every week, the trainer will monitor the progress of each student and at the end of each study period review of the course progress of each student will be conducted. Any student who fails to demonstrate 50% or more of the course progress, the trainer will notify to the Student Support Officer and a meeting will be organised between the student and relevant staff to discuss any concerns with the student in failing to meet the satisfactory progress for the course and offer assistance. When a student is identified as being at risk of failing to demonstrate satisfactory course progress, ACHM will implement intervention strategies as early as practicable.

A written report will be kept of the procedures undertaken with the student and their outcomes in the student’s file.
Students are required to undertake a Working with Children Check prior to professional experience placement. The cost currently is $ 80.00.
Students are required to undertake a National Police Check prior to professional experience placement. The cost varies from $50.00-$100.00
If students have already successfully completed units within the qualification, credit can be granted within our program.
Competencies gained through other formal study or experience may be acknowledged through a recognition process therefore students wishing to apply for RPL are to contact the office and speak to their respective Trainers and Assessors.
ACHM has a payment plan for those students who has financial hardship. To enter into a payment plan, students must fill out payment plan form (can be obtained from ACHM office) along with a detailed personal statement describing your financial difficulties and why you are unable to pay fees by the payment due date and submit to ACHM office 2 weeks before due date. The applications are assessed on their individual merits and will take 3 business days for outcome. If the application is approved, an administrative fee of $100 will be applied. The payment plan will be notified to the student.
